Hair Growth Tips

Ever since I was a little kid I was never afraid of trying new things, I got pixie cuts, layers, bangs, anything strange my religious parents allowed. With trying new things came many regrets, some haircuts I hated and all I wanted to do was pray for my hair to grow back out, and within a year or two it was back to being waist length like all good things should be. Yet every time I managed to get my hair super long I wanted to cut it again! Maybe I got my heart broken, or maybe I wanted to prove to my mother I wasn't afraid of getting the buzzcuts she always threatened to give me when I wouldn't brush my hair. No matter the reason, I always found my hair somewhat short again and I longed to have my long hair back. Because of these experiences, I dove deep into the rabbit hole that is the hair growth miracles on YouTube. After many years of research (it's not as fancy as it sounds), I found some of my favorite tips and tricks to growing out your hair that might help you if you're looking to get long hair fast.

As someone who's done it all, I know a thing or two about mending past mistakes. Especially when it comes to hair.

SILK OR SATIN BEDSHEETS

I'd say get a silk or satin bonnet, but I like my hair to be out and about when I sleep and I find bonnets tend to slip off my hair for whatever reason. Also, it's not only better for your hair but better for your body as well. It improves your completion, and since silk is so smooth, sleeping under silk bedding decreases the amount of friction against your skin. As a result, your skin looks clearer and more even. Of course, silk can be very expensive so satin bedding is an affordable alternative to silk.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT SHAMPOO

There are so many shampoos that cater to many different hair types, I have straight, thick, oily hair. But my sister has wavy, thinner, more normal hair. She used to try my shampoos and I would try hers and it would be a disaster of an experience. But when we started to use our own shampoos that worked for our hair type, it was life-changing.

You should also avoid using any harsh chemicals in your hair. When I buy any beauty-related product I always scan it on the app Yuka, it gives you a rating of the product and tells you what ingredients are potentially harmful. Opt for natural beauty products!

GET SPECIFIC WITH CONDITIONER

Not all conditioners work the same! Much like shampoo, conditioners cater to different hair types. Once you understand your hair type and your hair goals, get the conditioner that will help you reach these goals.

TRIM YOUR HAIR EVERY 10-12 WEEKS

I'm going to be very controversial now, TRIMMING YOUR HAIR WON'T MAKE YOUR HAIR GROW FASTER!! I'm sorry to those who have been deceived by the rabbit hole that is the hair growth community on YouTube. You can't trick your hair into doing that, believe me, I tried. What trimming can do is make sure you don't have raging split ends. When I used to have super long hair I had the worst split ends, and it was hard to get rid of because I never trimmed my hair so it was just a bunch of long messy ends. Trimming your hair won't stunt your hair growth journey it'll just make it look amazing once you reach your goal.

AVOID HEAT DAMAGE

I love to curl and style my hair as much as the next gal, but it can be very excessive and damaging to your ends! If you can stop using heat on your hair altogether then by all means do so! Air dry when possible, do overnight t-shirt curls, and use pillow rollers and foam rollers! Only use heat for emergencies!

DIET IS EVERYTHING!

You've heard the saying "What you eat is what you are" and that statement is very true. If you're eating an unhealthy diet filled with greasy junk not only will you end up with bad skin, but you'll end up with bad hair! Eat a balanced diet that's rich in vitamins and minerals, eat more protein, and increase your intake of omega-3 fatty acids!

I hope you found this information helpful, and I hope you enjoy your long, gorgeous hair!
