Thing’s Every Catholic Girl Should Do

I have to confess something: I’ve always been afraid of talking about my faith on this blog because my main demographic doesn’t vibe with Christianity. Lots of “holistic hippie” people generally aren’t Christian, and that’s not inherently a bad thing. However, today I had a thought, I always find it hard to find holistic things that align with my beliefs. So why not also be the place for holistic Christian girls to gather? I figured it’s time to stop being so scared and just vibe. This is a space for everyone!

So, having said all that, let’s get on with the topic at hand.

When I decided to convert to catholicism, I remember feeling overjoyed at the new possibilities of my future! Yet I felt somewhat lost, not knowing where to start. What does it mean to be a catholic girl? What do catholic girls do? Well, as I complete my 2-year anniversary of becoming a catholic, I thought about all the lifestyle changes I made and I wanted to share my favorites with you.

Have a Prayer Journal

A prayer journal is kind of like a diary, only you’re dedicating this diary to talking to God. Sometimes I like to have things in writing, it brings me clarity and allows me to think about what my needs are and what I want to say.

Start a Mary Garden

Though it could take some time, having a garden dedicated to Our Blessed Mother is worth all the hard work. It creates a sense of comfort and a relaxing atmosphere. Almost as if you are creating a mini-Eden.

Create a Home Altar

If you’re like me and you live in a protestant household, having a home altar out in the open may not be an option. I decided to have mine in the confines of my room. On it, I have my bible, my rosary, a crucifix, and a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes. It’s very simple, but waking up and looking at it allows me to feel comfort.

Volunteer at Catholic Charities

Does your parish do a lot of charity work? If so, you should volunteer and get involved! It’s a great way to build community and make new friends!

Join Your Parish Women’s Society

Most of my Sundays are spent going to mass and leaving immediately for brunch. It’s not easy to just approach someone at mass and befriend them, so when I learned that my parish had a women's society, I was excited to join a group of like-minded women to connect with. Every Catholic girl should go to at least one meeting to try and make some friends!

Make Rosaries

The women’s society at my parish also has a rosary-making club where the ladies of the church sit down and make rosaries for a couple of hours in the morning. If you’re not up for the extra socializing, you could also buy your own beads and make one at home! YouTube is a great resource for rosary-making tutorials.

Adoration at Least Once Every Two Weeks

Who doesn’t want to spend more time in the presence of Christ? Though attending adoration isn’t a requirement to being a good catholic, it’s a great way to connect with God during your free time. I usually pray the rosary or write in my prayer journal. Whatever activity you decide, attend adoration and spend time with Christ.

Wear a Crucifix Daily

Sometimes as we progress throughout our day, it’s nice to have a reminder of the sacrifice Jesus made for us. I love to wear my crucifix necklace every day, it’s also a great way to show others where you stand. I stand with Christ because I love Him.

To all my fellow Catholic girls, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there! Show the world you’re proud to be a Catholic! Cultivate Holiness!

xoxo,

Sarita
